New Books

Hello again. Today I want to share with you some of the newer books that have arrived in our shops recently.

Sample Spree is a book by Susan Ache that has patterns for 100 different quilt blocks that each finish at 6". Also in the blocks are dozens of tips to help you get beautiful accurate blocks. There is currently a sew along happening with the book and you can find all the details here. The organizers are making a set of blocks each week in a different color way, making it a great quilt along to bust up that stash.

On A Roll Again is from the Moda All Stars Collection and features 14 different patterns that all utilize Jelly Rolls. There are so many good patterns in this book that I am having a hard time trying to decide which one to make first. There is also a little fun fact section about each designer in the book as well.

The final new book I want to share with you tonight is Top The Table. It too is a compilation from the Moda All Stars and has 17 different patterns to make table runners and wall hangings. There are several different fun techniques in this book. Each pattern designer also has a little interview published in the book about the tables in their own homes.

In order for me to purchase a book it has to have 3 patterns inside that I really like and want to make. If it has 3 or more patterns I will definitely purchase it, as buying 3 separate patterns would be more expensive than a whole book full. All 3 of these books that I just shared meet the criteria for sure!

We have all 3 books available in the shop, quantities are limited but we do have more on order. Clicking on the photo of the book will take you to it on our website,

Have a great week. There will be no blog post on Monday as it is a Holiday.

Our Current Projects

 Happy Monday.

Today I wanted to share with you some of the projects that we are currently working on, what we can't wait to start, and a recent finish from each of us. Summer has been busy for all of us but we are still making a little bit of time for quilting.

Carrie recently finished up this beautiful quilt using Ava Kate by Carina Gardner for Riley Blake. There is some yardage left in the shop and one kit left in store that will make a quilt similar to the one Carrie made (she decided to not put her blocks on point as they are in the pattern)

She is currently working on a really fun quilt with Open Heart by Maureen Cracknell for Art Gallery Fabrics. The hearts are a free tutorial from Cluck Cluck Sew and she is making a variety of them in two different sizes. Kits will be available when Carrie finishes her sample.

Carrie has a fun black and white quilt with pops of green and lavender planned that she is really excited to get started on. The black and white fabrics are from the collection Illustrations by Alli K for Moda.

Esther recently finished up a few beach blankets, one of them was this fun patchwork quilt made with Sunburst from art Gallery. We do have kits available to make this quilt and it goes together really quick! Click here to purchase a kit

She is currently working on a Happy Scrappy Village quilt using Cozy Up by  Corey Yoder. This is a free pattern from Moda Bakeshop and you can download it here. Cozy Up yardage is not yet available but we do still have some precuts left and for this quilt, you need a layer cake plus some green yardage for trees, brown scraps for the trunks and some background fabric.

Esther has a fall project planned that she can't wait to start. She is making the Pumpkins Quilt from Cluck Cluck Sew using Pumpkins and Blossoms by Fig Tree for Moda. We made kits for this one as well, and they are available in store and on our website. Click Here to purchase online

I recently finished this quilt using Flea Market Fresh by Cathe Holden for Moda. Kits are available for this one too, link for kit

I am currently working on a quilt with Strawberries and Rhubarb by Fig Tree. The pattern is called Sweet Pea, and it is a really fun one to make, with no points to match. Kits are available here

I can't wait to start this Mountainside Quilt using Rocky Mountain Wild by Corrinne Wells for Riley Blake. Kits will be available when I finish the sample.

Are you getting any sewing in this summer?

Have a great week,

Kayla

The Bonnie and Camille Quilt Bee: Month 6

Happy Monday Friends! We have reached the halfway mark in our Bonnie and Camille Quilt Bee, which also means it is time to pick a halfway point prize winner. I will announce the prize winner at the end of this post so you will have to keep on reading to get there ;) First we have to go over the blocks we need to make this month.

This month we are making the Evening Star Block and the instructions can be found on page 103 of our pattern book.

We need to make 4 of the block and that is all for this month, and I for one was thankful about that as my calendar for the past couple weeks, and the next few weeks got very full and my quilting time has.  decreased somewhat.

The Evening Star block goes together the same was as the Eight Point Star Block that we made last month, all that is different is we are switching the placement of the print and background.

So once again I used my Ultimate Flying Geese Ruler from Creative Grids to make the Flying Geese sections of the block.

This time around I tried to use bolder colors for my blocks, whereas in the Eight Point Star Blocks I used some of the softer prints.

If you click here you can see how I made the Eight Point Star blocks.

Now for the Prize Winner. Congratulations to Arlene S you are the winner of our Halfway Prize. You have won a prize pack containing a Chicken Feed Quilts Water Bottle, one of our organizational binders and a Charm Pack of Sunday Stroll. I will contact you directly to arrange pick up of your prize.

Keep sending me the photos of your projects each month as there will be another prize at the end of your quilt along.

Have a great week,
Kayla

Garden Sampler BOM: Month 7

It is the beginning of another month! This year has been going by way to fast, and June seemed to slip away from me.

I quickly sewed up my block for this month this morning, remembering I had to blog about it this afternoon. It was a good thing this block was not too difficult of time consuming. It is just a few flip and stitches, with the partial seam around the center square again.

I really like to chain piece, so I chain pieced all my flip and stitch corners, and just used my diagonal seam tape to make sure i was sewing straight through the middle. By chain piecing I could almost sew all the flip and stitches without trimming and ironing except for one unit, where the flip and stitches intersect to create a point in the block.

Chain Piecing, following the diagonal seam tape

Both flip and stitches sewn before trimming and pressing

This one I had to trim and press before attaching the second flip and stitch, since the squares are meant to overlap to make a point in the block.
All the trimmings from my flip and stitches

The components

To put the square in the center we need to do a partial seam, to do this I drew a 1/4" line on all sides of the back of my square, so that I would know where to stop stitching.

Then we just have to keep putting our 4 petal units around the center square until we complete our block as shown below.

And that is our block for this month. It was good for me to make this block this month, as I haven't done much sewing since I've been enjoying the weather out on the lake.
Do you have a problem getting into your sewing room with weather like we've been having?

New Fabric: July

I hope you all had a wonderful long weekend! We spent the weekend hanging out with family and friends, swimming, boating, golfing and eating way too much food!

I want to share some of the new collections that arrived in our shop over the past few weeks.

The last few bolts of Flea Market Fresh by Cathe Holden For Moda have arrived. I love the purple in this cool vintage feeling collection!

Dance in Paris by Zen Chic is here as well. Carrie made this fun quilt from the book Stripology Mixology, it just takes a Jelly Roll plus some background Fabric.

Boudoir by Basic Grey arrived at the end of May and has been selling really quickly! Carrie made a Moda Love Quilt with the collection and we love how it turned out. She used a Charm Pack to make it table topper size but it would be a great quilt made with the 10" squares as well.

Powerplay from Benartex is a fantastic hockey themed line. I haven't shown this to my boys yet, or I am sure all four would be requesting a quilt from it.

Adventure is Calling is new as well. This collection was designed by Dani Mogstad for Riley Blake and it has been really popular. This one comes with a navy panel and a green panel which makes for a quick project. We also put together some Baby Tumbler Quilt Kits together with this collection and they are available in the shop and on our website.

We have a few new Art Gallery Lines as well.
Sunburst is exactly how it sounds, a burst of summer and sunshine. Esther is working on a beach blanket with this one and we will have kits available soon.

Boscage by Katarina Rocella is a great mix of prints and deep colors.

And for all those that have been waiting we have finally received some new flannels. There are more than 40 new prints and colors to choose from. But shop quick because Flannel always seems to sell quickly.

Have a wonderful week! Carrie will be here on Thursday to share the next block in her quilt along, and next Monday I will be going over the next set of blocks for The Bonnie and Camille Quilt Bee.
